There was bright sunshine and no rain for over two weeks, but yesterday and part of today we got hours of gentle rain. All foliage is suddenly plump and greener, and the weeds have doubled in size overnight. Here are a few pictures of the hiatus between the spring rush and the early summer.

Your path is so charming. I'm using a lot of wooly thyme, that may overtake some stones in time. Do you actually step on it? It seems you must.
ReplyDeleteI have used all the varieties of thyme I have found. A lot is also wooly thyme. It can be walked on and survive. It would not in a public garden where hundreds of people use the path. But there is no problem stepping on it once or twice a day.
DeleteI like that thyme walk. I really want to try that here. And I love the rill - reminds me so much of Hestercombe.

ReplyDeleteAs usual we went from winter to summer. The last frost was May 5th. A week before that it was winter - a week later it was summer!
DeletePrince Charles has a Thyme Walk, just like yours, you are both in good company! I'm sure your plants have appreciated the rain, we can't do without it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pauline. I don't suppose prince Charles does much of the weeding! Actually it is not a lot of work as it is over stone an not many weeds get a foothold. However, after a while some of the thyme clumps have to be removed when if crab grass get established in the clump.
DeleteWhat a rich green. I love the walk with the rill down the middle, I don't think I have seen that before in a garden. It's good to get a long slow rain, we get too many sudden downpours.
ReplyDeleteIt is the time of the year when there are many different greens - it is beautiful. In late July all the greens will tend to be more or less the same color.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden, Alain, and it's nice to see it refreshed. We could do with some rain...just got back this weekend to a very thirsty garden, bad time to leave it anyway. The red paeonia buds looks very promising indeed.
