Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness



Here are a few pictures of the September garden. A time of year when the light is often softer, when fruits and vegetables are finally ripening and roses make a last effort before the cold settles in.

  2. The fall blooming crocus we transplanted over the summer are poking their blue faces up and smiling. I was a little worried.

  5. Lovely. Pokeweed is so picturesque, with its red stems and berries, I keep waiting for it to be declared the next "must-have" plant. Oh wait - we all have it already! Never mind.

  6. Keats's "To Autumn" is one of my favourite poems! I learned it by heart in high school. My Blanc de Coubert, "Monsieur", is budding with "later flowers for the bees, until they think warm days will never cease, for Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells." Sigh of contentment...

  7. As summer comes to an end the garden begins to change and different shades/ colours start to appear. Autumn is also a beautiful time and I'm sure you'll put that pumpkin to good use. It makes a good wintry soup.
