Last Colours

Leaves seem to be holding onto the trees slightly longer than they usually do. Could it be because of the rain that has been falling relentlessly (as you can see from the water in the field below)? There are still some bright colours, but they will not last much longer. All these pictures were taken in the neighbourhood.

The constant rain makes most of the foliage appear rather washed out.

In the last picture below, the apples are exactly the same colour as the dead leaves on the tree.

  1. I remarked just today this fall is not as lovely as last. A brief flurry of color last week, and then winds and the unrelenting rains have put half ours on the ground. The trees look thin and seer; there are no reds to speak of.

    1. It is funny how it varies from one year to the next.

Are you moving for your annual migration soon ?

  3. I've enjoyed watching the leaves this fall, and trying to decipher patterns in their changing. My impression is that frost had a big impact. Most are gone here now, though a fea trees are still covered.

    1. It does. The cows will be leaving soon. They are left in that field for the summer and taken away to their 'home' before the snow comes.

  5. Wonderful autumn colour Alain - with the wind we've been experiencing, colour here is fast disappearing.
I must take a walk around the neighbourhood tomorrow for a closer look.

  6. We still have some lovely coloured leaves but the wind didn't do some trees any favours

    Un saluto!

    1. Apple trees are rather like weeds on this property. It is interesting that the foliage turns the same colours as the apples.

  11. Despite the rain your autumn colours are still amazing, we had strong winds last week so lots of leaves have fallen off already, but the temperature is still very high for October.
I´m for the first time here, have read about Roche Fleurie and am quite impressed by the work you two have done to make it such a paradise. Will be your new follower.

  12. How interesting--but you still have many leaves still on your trees! Most of ours are blown off now, although we had stunningly brilliant color earlier in October. The kind that would make a person wonder if the color was real if they didn't see it with their own eyes. Now winter has set in here in the Upper Midwest. I'm not a winter fan, so I'm trying to find indoor joys that will help me cope. Like...making Apple pie! That last shot is fascinating!

  13. Oh, rats. I had left a comment on this post -- some mild plaisanterie about not worrying whether the cattle had enough to drink -- but must have missed a step. And my inbox tell me your latest post (the grouse) arrived at midnight, and yet your blogfriends have been posting since yesterday afternoon! My friend Merrilee despairs of ever understanding the mysteries of the Internet, but she sure isn't the only one to "grouse" about it.

  14. Apparently your blog has been asking whether I'm a robot, but doesn't show that question on the screen; one needs to scroll to the bottom again to even find it. I've tried three times to leave a comment on this post. If any of of your other usual Wordpress friends have been absent, that may be why. Oh, and it looks as though I'm now "Anonymous"? Could've sworn I wasn't a robot when I woke up this morning.

  15. Hello Alain, it looks like you're well into Autumn. The trees here are showing colour, but many are still green, although fallen leaves are beginning to pile up on the pavement and by the sides of the roads. I don't think we're that far behind you.

  16. I'm a bit late but I'm glad I came, Alain, as I'm mad about autumn colours and your area seems to be fab. What kind of trees do you have in the wood around you? Especially the 3rd last image looks great. Hope your treasured plants don't drown.
