This was one of the mildest winters we have had for a few years. A week ago, many bulbs were up. Little did we know that winter had just been postponed to April.
I did a quick collage selecting a few views of the garden taken in previous years, trying to match them with current photos.
The first is perhaps the most telling as the picture of the left was taken on April 25th of a previous year and the one on the right on April 9th of this year.
Paths and beds merge under the snow.
At least the rill is open, you could not see it a three days ago (and had to be careful not to fall into it).
The cold frame does look cold.
Of course, the April sun is rather warm - warm enough, I hope, to melt all this snow in a short time. Actually, it is melting already.

What a difference! I hope your snow soon goes and stays away this time! I think your cold frame may be nice and warm under its thick duvet.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pauline. I think we should be back to normal this weekend.
DeleteGreat comparison shots! Yes, it's been feeling like the seasons are moving backwards here, but the forecast is looking good!
ReplyDeleteWe were your way yesterday and glad to see that all was melted.
DeleteMaudit hiver infini!
ReplyDeleteC'est un cas de "Mon pays, ce n'es pas un pays c'est l'hiver!"
DeleteIt's really disheartening when severe weather comes late and plants are at a vulnerable stage. I hope you didn't have too much loss.
ReplyDeleteIt should be OK Red. Already, much of it has melted.
DeleteWow, what a surprise! I am actually enjoying my first tulips already!
ReplyDeleteGood. Glad for you.
DeleteYes, April has been as cold or colder than March for us, too. Hang in there: If our weather makes its way over to you, good things are on the way. I watched a Mourning Cloak butterfly float on a warm breeze today. The migrating birds are coming back. Spring is winning the fight with winter now. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDo send some of this good weather our way. Many birds are back here too. The phoebe that nest under the eave is back and I can hear the sandhill crane.
DeleteWhat a cold April this has been. You have had it worse than we have, though.
ReplyDeleteWe were particularly favored this last week as an hour south of us they only had rain. Still, given that it got quite cold, perhaps snow was preferable. Half of it has melted. I expect it to be gone in 2 days.
DeleteAlain, what spring this year! You have snow melting in April, and we have no snow just about a month but no warmth at all. Cold days and nights. Sure all your bulbs will be up soon!
ReplyDeleteIt's quite cold here too. We have had one or two sunny days when it has been nice and warm and tempted us to think that spring has really taken hold. Then the weather takes a turn for the worst again.
ReplyDeleteI hope winter doesn't hang around to long with you Alain. The weather seems to be at sixes and sevens everywhere.
ReplyDeleteWow Alain, the contrast between the two couldn't be more different, it's as if you took the later picture several months after the first, a kind of Winter to Spring progress. I hope the garden recovers quickly and catches up once the snows have gone.
